Sonic Youth Dispersal

This is kinda neat - a device to be used by police to move young people out of areas by playing an unpleasant noise is being called the Sonic Youth Dispersal Unit...

...The Mosquito, or Sonic Youth Deterrent, to give it its proper name, has been piloted in the Midlands with startling results, it is claimed.

When switched on, the device emits a high frequency sound that is audible only to those under the age of 20.

It may be an intimidating device for gangs of teens.

With the backing of Staffordshire Police it was installed in several troublespots with great success and is now being considered for use in other areas, including Croydon.

Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Mark Gore said: "We have heard of this technology being used elsewhere in the UK.

"It is something that certainly we would possibly look into using at Croydon, as it provides police with a further tool in tackling antisocial behaviour by youths."
